Hey all, time to discuss this weeks objective.

Looks like we need some more menu sounds, and according to James, he wants it to be war themed, and maybe about 2 minutes long.

@Sean, can you upload "In the Mech Bay", "Other Moons", and "Pick a Poison" to assets if you haven't already?

I'll finish up my piece and upload it soon, and maybe we can start discussing on new pieces?

@Sean I would loved to have submitted it yesterday but it closed before I got home from school to upload it. I won't be able to upload the files until I get home which is in about 7 hours. Also James said that he reopened it, but I don't see the agenda anywhere, and it won't let me upload to assets unless the agenda is currently assigned

@Sean I never used an alto horn :P I only have good low brass sounds so it must be the sounds that I used

I'll repost them tomorrow but where are the tracks Robert did for the last sprint?

 

@Shayn, I like the track but the volume seems to jump at points, within the music itself I mean,not between FX and music. It's nice though, good man, and I like that discordant run in the middle, very cool. I'm not overly keen on the alto horn but it seems to all work together so, happy days.

 

Guys, can you upload the work for review so that we can box off this Sprint? I think this is some serious over-achieving this time round lads, great work.

@Robert I like the addition of multiple snares! I'll make a recording tomorrow, where should I send it?

I think I got a little carried away with my track, it is turning into a stand alone action theme instead of a menu theme... whoops :P I'll finish up my older song, which I think will work as a menu track, but it doesn't have a march theme to it. The new one, I will continue to work on over the next sprint, but trust me, I think it will turn out awesome when it is done

@Sean Nice track! In my opinion, I feel that the horns need to be a little more beefy. Also, maybe some more reverberation on the siren to make it sound further? Again, this is all in my opinion. I like the wind and low end!

Hey all, I have to go to a birthday party now but let me know what you think. I think I'm happy with it but, like Robert, I'm not 100%! Like in Robert's track, with those jangly bells at the start, I've basically placed the track over the siren, rather than the siren being a part of the track. I think it sounds better having it off time but I'm open to opinion to the contrary :)

@Robert, the more I listen to your track the more I like it. One thing to try maybe would be to move to the F# on the penultimate bar, just for resolution, but I genuinely like it, it's nice work.

@Robert, nice work to start off with man. I know what you mean about not feeling a track but the bones are there for a good piece and everything always sounds shit until it doesn't, especially to your own ears!

Honestly, replacing the snare notwithstanding, and yeah it probably could be replaced, I think the track doesn't need much more so I'll just work on the dark, siren track and see if there's room for this trumpet bit in there somewhere.

 

@Shayn, thanks for recording the snare sounds, you're a champ. Definitely recommend recording it outside your neighbours house at 2am tonight though :)

If all goes according to plan, I will finish up my older piece today after school, and continue on the march. As for tomorrow, I'm booked so I can't work at all, but for Sunday, I'll have some time in the afternoon to work.

Still not exactly sure how to implement some synths in yet, you guys got any ideas?

All right, cool everyone!

I'm actually doing mine at 160, but majority of it feels 80 because of half time with the exception of short quick "action-y" flourishes, and for time signatures, I'm thinking of some 5/4, 7/8, or 10/8 sections.

As for progress, I've pretty much finished the intro, and for my other piece, I just need to do the mixing. I'm also thinking it will be worth the wait to get some real percussion in the march Reply:

This all sounds great guys, apart from you being ill Shayn ha ha! God, I remember when I was in school, how happy I was to be sick; now it's just a nuisance haha!

 

@Robert, I'm good with 120bpm if you are although I think we should try parts in half time too, just for kicks :) Any ideas on time signature? I just arrived at work after a 6.5 mile run so, sorry, my brain isn't thinking past 4/4 right now. Let me do some research and throw an idea your way.

 

Well, I'd love to have a go at an ominous piece with, brilliant idea by the way Melisa, a tornado siren. I love this idea.

 

@Shayn, I'm good with your concepts and obviously everyone's free to interpret them differently but, as a framework, excellent stuff! I'll take the third one, the rising tension type deal.

Also if we make our own tracks, how about we each make different emotions?

We could have a more upbeat hopeful one for victories; a fast intense/action one for battle; and a slower ominous, or almost sneaky one for quite behind enemy lines etc.

I'd be up for action if we go this way, and if you need help with ideas, look up Michael Giacchino Medal of Honor, pretty much perfect examples of what I am talking about :P

You guys are awesome:)  id love to see a peice that had an ominous feel.  Maybe a faint siren in the background similar to like a tornado siren like a warning feel to it.  Just throwing an idea out there :)

Obviously, I quite like a more electronic, sci-fi feel but I'm wondering if it might be an idea to have a more old-fashioned piece, like American Civil War style, trumpet solo etc, but with some futuristic elements to bring it into the 36th Century ha ha!

Do you guys have any other thoughts?

@Rob, I'll find out for you when I get home in about 5 hours or so.

So, we can't really have too many tracks for TLS and, personally, I'm absolutely fine with something I put forward not being deemed up to scratch and binning it.

@Rob, are you happy enough making a track each to go along with Dr Toothman's?

@Shayn, Those tracks were uploaded on previous Sprints, thanks for checking though :) Do you want to take time to finish your work in progress or are you ok to collaborate on something together?

 

Personally, I think we should bring some ideas together and see what we feel like running with and I'm also fine with bringing 3 unique tracks and seeing which ones we put forward, if not all of them.
